Korea Institute of Atmospheric Prediction Systems Director Dr. Song-You Hong

Providing accurate weather forecasts is one of the essential components that enable the country to mitigate the loss of life and property damages caused by weather-related risks. To achieve this goal, we need to develop a numerical weather prediction model that is optimized to topographic and meteorological features around the Korean Peninsula.

KIAPS has successfully laid the basis for Korea’s own model through research and development so far. Based on the advanced technology, KIAPS is committed to developing the next-generation numerical weather prediction model that surpasses the limit of the modern science and technology, which will put Korea to the world’s center of numerical weather forecasting.
